Once upon a time I was in a work situation where I felt stuck. My days were stressful working for someone who expected long hours in the office. This was difficult because I value productivity and results more than time spent. At that time, I felt like the cartoon character in the jail cell, frustrated and discouraged, with no options.
At least, that was the story I told myself.
Now take a closer look at the jail cell image.
What story do you think the prisoner was telling himself? "I'm going nowhere?" "There is no way out?" "I am stuck?" His face reflects his limiting beliefs about his circumstance.
But was this the truth?
NOOOOOOO!!!
Unknown to the prisoner who saw only what was directly in front of him, there were 3 other sides that had no bars!!
Freedom was available but he was too close minded to see it!
How often do we feel stuck because we tell ourselves a story that isn't true?
I remember talking to a life coach about my work situation and in just a few minutes, she opened my mind to numerous possibilities! In my state of duress, it hadn't occurred to me that there were multiple options! I could have a conversation with my boss about how the expectations were affecting me, I could set boundaries around my work hours, I could search for a more flexible culture, etc etc.
Simply thinking about alternatives felt so liberating!
Now back to you and the stuckness you feel in your life.
Here are 5 steps to set you free:
1. Temporarily remove yourself from the stressful environment. Get outdoors in nature, take some deep breaths, and relax your body. This will set the stage for more creative thinking.
2. Bring a journal & pen and write 5-10 possibilities that exist for you.
3. Read each option, then close your eyes and check for resonance in your body. Which feels the most inspiring, uplifting, and just right for you?
4. Write an action step you will take right away toward your most resonant option.
5. Keep taking action until you feel freedom and alignment with who you truly are and what you really want.
Limitations in our life are not based on our circumstances, they are based on our thoughts about those circumstances.
Keep searching for the truth that serves you best. You will feel empowered and liberated as your ideal life begins to unfold!
