I've been reflecting lately on a question that I think many of us wrestle with: Am I doing what I'm meant to be doing?
Recently, I turned to my special brother Pete for guidance. Pete has a deep spirituality about him—he receives vivid images and messages that affirm he's on the right path. When I asked him how he knows, his answer was simple yet profound: Ask God directly, then open your heart to the signs around you.
So, I did.
I walked down to our dock, looked out at the water, and asked, God, what should I be doing?
And then, I waited.
It wasn't long before my daughter Ana joined me. She sat beside me and said something that touched me deeply: I love talking with you, Mom. A little while later, Roo, my rambunctious Bernese Mountain dog, came barreling down the hill, greeted me with a wag to the face, and plopped down on top of me. Not long after that, my son George appeared, just to check in.
Were these my signs? Maybe the message was that being present with my family, loving them, and cherishing these moments is exactly where I need to be right now.
Or maybe Roo was telling me it's time to write that book about his mischievous adventures—after all, he provides fresh material daily!
I'm grateful to Pete for reminding me to slow down, ask the right questions, and listen for the answers. Without that moment of reflection, I might have been ticking off my “to-do” list, completely missing the important messages right in front of me.
So, I'll ask you:
How do you know you're doing what you've been called to do?
I'd love to hear your thoughts...
