"Don't be Different"

When my teenager once told me, “Don't be different,” because I said something she didn't approve of, I was stunned.

But then I realized… that is the goal when you're a teenager:

Fit in. Don't stand out. Don't draw attention to yourself.

That mindset may work in middle or high school.

It does not work when you're trying to land your next ideal role.

In fact, blending in becomes one of the biggest barriers to moving forward. It can prolong your search and keep you stuck in roles that don't truly fit.

To move toward what's next, you need clarity on what makes you different—not for the sake of being different, but to understand your unique combination of strengths, passions, and perspective. Your “secret sauce” is what creates your impact.

You bring experiences and abilities no one else does.

And there are organizations looking for exactly that right now.

Ask yourself:

Do I know what truly sets me apart?

• Can I confidently articulate the value I bring?

When the answer is yes, people land roles that fit—faster and with far more confidence.

This is the work I do with clients every day. In just a few focused hours together, they gain clarity, embrace what makes them unique, and feel prepared to Pivot with Purpose.

If you're ready to explore what that could look like for you, click below to learn more.
