My Body Sucks.

I've heard “My body sucks” from several friends lately. I've even thought this myself when trying on swimsuits for Spring Break.

After all, winters are harsh here in Minnesota and we tend to eat and drink our way through it!

Does carrying a few extra pounds or having extra pasty skin really mean “our bodies suck”?

I've questioned my friends and myself on this and after further consideration, discovered this:

“My body allows me to walk, shovel the driveway, swim and do yoga.”

“My body works out several days a week and it can keep up with my kids."

“My body may not look perfect, but I don't want perfect. The trade off is too severe. My body is healthy, functioning and permits me to do what makes me happy!”

What's the conclusion?

OUR BODIES DON'T SUCK!

They are miracles in action! How all 78 organs and 30 trillion cells work together so that our brains can think 70,000 thoughts and our hearts can beat 115,200 beats a day so that we can do whatever it is we do, is nothing short of amazing to me.

Do they always function perfectly? Of course not. Do they sometimes feel pain and discomfort? Yes they do.

Life is 50/50. Acceptance and management of the uncomfortable comes along with appreciating the good.

Being alive is a gift and so are our bodies.

So when you try on that swimsuit or spring outfit and think “my body sucks”... think again.

What is true that serves you and your body better?

Then notice how much better you feel!

“And I said to my body, softly, 'I want to be your friend.' It took a long breath. And replied, 'I have been waiting my whole life for this.'” —Nayyirah Waheed

Love yourself. Love your body.

Happy Spring!
