If you're not taking action toward making a change you want in your life or career, it may be because you're lacking belief in yourself, and your beliefs are dependent on validation from others.
In my early working years, I put too much weight on getting validation from others. I wish I was aware of this and how I was holding myself back as a result.
This is problematic for a couple of reasons:
1. If we don't believe in ourselves, we can't expect others to believe in us. It always starts from within.
2. If our belief in ourselves is based on what others think, we are giving all the power to them and none to ourselves.
If your career or life is not moving in the direction you desire or as quickly as you want, it's time to check in on your beliefs and take the power back by doing the following 3 step exercise.
Start by getting a piece of paper and writing a line down the middle to make 2 columns. Label the left column Beliefs and the right column Powerful Beliefs.
1. In the left column, write all your current beliefs about making the change you want.
2. Read through each belief and identify the negative ones. The negative ones are limiting you. Let's change that! Find evidence where each limiting belief is false, then create & write a new, powerful belief in the Powerful Beliefs column. They must be something you genuinely believe; faking it doesn't work!
3. Review the positive, powerful beliefs you have about yourself. Pick the one that resonates with you the most, the one that will inspire you to take action. At the start of each day and whenever you find yourself wavering in positive self-belief, read that statement, let it really soak in, and notice how it makes you feel. Use that positive emotional energy to propel you into action!!
What powerful self-belief did you discover through this process?
