If you've recently experienced a layoff, I want you to know I truly empathize with you.
When I was laid off a few years ago, it felt like the ground had been pulled from under me. The self-blame hit hard, making an already difficult situation even worse.
Does this sound familiar? Are you blaming yourself for something out of your control?
Let me remind you of something important:
Your worth is not tied to a job title, paycheck, or productivity. Layoffs happen for reasons beyond our control—restructuring, budgets, or market shifts—not because of who you are or your value.
Now is not the time to beat yourself up. It's a time to show yourself the compassion you'd give a friend in the same situation.
So give yourself space and grace to process your emotions. Allow yourself to simply be.
If you're feeling the pressure to immediately start searching for your next role, pause for a moment. Yes, action is necessary eventually, but now is a time for reflection.
Ask yourself:
❓ What might this season of change be signaling for me?
❓Is it a time to rest and realign with what truly matters?
❓Could it be an opportunity to explore a new passion or direction?
❓How is this happening for me?
You have permission to rest, reflect, and rediscover.
As someone who has walked this path and found my passion as a career transition coach, I know negative thoughts can creep back in. To combat this, I recommend a simple daily reminder:
📝 Write these 4 affirmations on a sticky note and place it where you’ll see it often:
💌 I am worthy and valuable just as I am—independent of titles or paychecks.
💌I will treat myself with the same kindness and respect I would offer a friend.
💌I am deserving of space and grace to process and heal.
💌This is happening for me—I am open to discovering how.
You are not defined by your layoff. You are capable, resilient, and valuable beyond measure.
If you need support or someone to talk to, I’m here for you. And I strongly encourage you to be there for yourself, too.
